Mark Gelgor was suffering from severe work stress as a jeweler in South Africa. When he immigrated to Canada he had a dream of starting a business teaching children the fundamentals of sport. His love of sports and children seemed to make a great marriage. But he faced tough challenges. He was running out of savings before the first year was up and his earnings were minimal. He sometimes wondered whether he should go back to South Africa, where he had a proven way to earn income. This wasn’t what he or his wife really wanted so they made an agreement to give their business 100% for two years and promised not to consider any alternatives until the two years were up. Mark worked seven-day weeks until 2 a.m for three years. How did he do it? Here is what he said, “What sustained me was the love for the work, and the children’s enjoyment of our program.”
